Everyday People

My artwork captures the stories and likeness of black people through paper, using Daguerreotypes as my inspiration. In each layered portrait, my work communicates expressions of love, pride, and passion by focusing on vivid cut details that capture the subject's likeness.
I incorporated Adinkra symbols and patterns with gold leaf to the border to represent the pieces and parts that make them who they are as people, allowing their identity and story to come full circle.

Layered paper cuts are framed in 11 x 14 and 8 x 10 handmade shadow boxes. Each paper cut has gold leaf and 3 layers of paper.
